1/19/2024 0 Comments Hidden gems in orlando![]() But to me, a loyal midwesterner, this sounds awesome. Perhaps, a corn maze sounds boring to Orlandoans with all the theme parks/beaches/escape rooms already present around downtown. Scott's Maze Adventures: I drove past this a few months ago not knowing exactly what it was. It is right up the road from Colonial High School, and my fiance, who visits Puerto Rico semioften has said that their Pan de Agua, Quesitos and Cabao compare favorably to many places in Puerto Rico itself. However, I was unable to find a specifically Puerto Rican neighborhood or place that was good, much to my chagrin most of the time I had to make due with Pollo Tropical. When I started dating my fiance who has significant Puerto Rican ancestry, family dinners at her relatives houses were experiences that quite literally put me in foodie heaven. Recommend checking out when coming over to UCF to go for a hike, athletic event or show.Ĭaribe Bakery and Restaurant: Another thing I have heard about Orlando since moving here was that there was a distinct Puerto Rican culture. Supposedly billed as the "Chipotle of Italian Food", the concept is unique to this location and is very awesome from everything I have heard, and reviews on Urbanspoon which is normally very picky topping 90 percent. Spoleto: My Italian Kitchen: This is one place one my list that I haven't tried yet, but certainly plan to ASAP. Don't come expecting a massive grove where you can smell the oranges and take a tour, it is mainly just a store, but, their products are absolutely AWESOME, and this place is only about 10 minutes from downtown. That all changed a few weeks ago when I discovered and checked out Red Hill Groves. So, my childhood nostalgia was disappointed when doing so anywhere close to Orlando didn't appear to be a reality. Red Hill Groves: One of the things that I really loved about coming to Florida when I was younger was visiting orange groves. If you don't have tubes, they are what make the experience, so be sure to stop at the little bar/restaurant place you see about a quarter mile before entering the park. If you haven't been yet, this is one of these places that really makes you believe there is a God, and that he wants us to be happy. Granted, I visited on a weekday and so I can imagine that some summer weekends the place is quite literally jammed, but still. This place is so relaxing and peaceful, and really redefines the freshwater spring game. Kelly Park: This one goes first and foremost, because it was the reason for even writing this. They aren't quite as well known, but in some ways, that might be what makes them great. Visit Mount Dora and take a boat tour on the Dora Canal. These are a few places I have explored around Orlando in the past few weeks that I also felt might be worthwhile to other fellow residents to explore. The Central Florida Zoo is also located in Sanford John's River.and you can have a meal while you travel. In Winter Park, the Scenic Boat Tour is a must. And they are not all in Orlando, but in Central Florida. ![]() For the most part, they are off the tourist path. I wouldn't call these hidden gems, but you may not be aware of some or all of them. "Also can anyone recommend some other activities which I may not be aware of but which would be fun for whole family?" ![]()
